Nellie Kumagai said she offers customers style at affordable prices at her Main Street boutique, Stuarts Apparel/Nellie K., above.

Main Street in downtown Los Altos is home to many stores ideal for local fashionistas who want to indulge in retail therapy.

A number of stores, including Cambric Ltd., Stuart’s Apparel/Nellie K., Oz Boutique, 151 Boutique, Boutique Scarlet, Yum Yum Tree and Shunzi, form a wide-ranging and sophisticated group of clothing collections designed to fit women of every size, shape, personality and budget, each with something special and unique to offer a diverse clientele.

Local clothing shop owners and employees stress the importance of having a close relationship with their customers.

“We have been here more than 20 years, so we know all our customers and we are keen to their needs,” said Azar Abdollahi, Oz Boutique owner.

Staying customer oriented, Scarlet offers free personal services, which could mean an at-home styling session or a private appointment after store hours.

Each store brings something different to the table. Nellie Kumagai, owner of Stuart’s Apparel/Nellie K., emphasized that her store offers style at affordable prices and attentive customer service.

Yum Yum Tree owner Chris Kendall highlighted the importance of “interesting, imaginative clothing that travels well through time” ... or distance.

“My store was inspired by Europe,” said Scarlet’s owner, Naomi Ciacchella. “I drew a lot of my inspiration from high-end fashion designers, too.”

Cambric employee Kim Newton said the store is a “fun place to shop where customers will find unique items that can’t be found everywhere else in town.”

Cambric carries many exclusive designers and brands, including Eileen Fisher, Nic & Zoe, Christopher Blue, Brighton and Isaa.

Feeling good in clothes is also important, and employees of Shunzi know that.

“Size, shape and fit are so important for women,” said Kiki Johnson, a Shunzi employee. “We buy things so women don’t feel like they’re trying to look like their daughters, but still look stylish and up-to-date.”

But if you are looking for something for a teenage daughter, 151 Boutique is the place to go. The brands the boutique carries are not like most small boutiques that carry lines such as Juicy Couture and Citizens for Humanity denim, which are no longer that original. 151 features one-of-a-kind, must-have items that they will never catch their friends wearing.

The atmosphere in all the stores is designed to be inviting and pleasant, and Scarlet and 151 Boutique are especially colorful. Most of the boutiques offer spacious fitting rooms and sitting areas – ideal for a friend tagging along on a shopping extravaganza.
